If the new look website is anything to go by you might think that there’s some changes happening behind the scenes here at the Artisan’s Fair Market. That’s because this year the Market is now under new ownership. Jodie Hannam will be known to many in Northland through her work at the Manaia Arts, Craft & Food Show, in Whangarei Heads on Queen’s Birthday weekend, which she managed for three years, successfully doubled in size and, with the help of a fantastic group of fellow volunteers, raised a record breaking amount of money for the local school & kindy. Over the years this Queens Birthday annual fundraiser has become a firm fixture on the Northland Arts & Craft calendar, attracting stallholders from all over the North Island of NZ, as well as becoming a popular attraction to locals & visitors on this holiday weekend
Coming from a strong background in event management in NZ and Australia, she brings with her a passion for growing the Northland Arts & Craft industry and bringing a larger exposure to the talents of these local artisans.
Jodie believes her strongest attribute in this new venture to be her lack of artistic ability – “I am so in awe of the talents of these people but the avenues for exposure for their products is so limited around the Whangarei area. I want to create something that becomes a thriving, busy environment where people go not just to browse and shop for one off handmade items, but where they can socialise and catch up over all the yummy food offerings. Something that becomes a destination, an event that Whangarei people can be proud to show off, a “must see” on their list of things to do with visitors”
Over the coming years Jodie will be working towards engaging surrounding businesses and local talent for things like busking competitions, bake offs and art exhibitions for school aged kids. She would also love to find ways to help connect local artists of all ages so they can mentor and support each other during their journeys to share their art and passions with the world. Jodie plans to make the Artisan’s Market a key drawcard to the ever growing Whangarei Town Basin area, attracting both locals & visitors to this vibrant thriving area.
If you are an Artisan, an artist, a craftsman, creative person, gourmet food maker, wine maker, exotic plant grower, or have a unique collection of collectibles to sell – then the Artisans Market on the Bridge may be the place for you this summer.
And, for those of you who are coming through or visiting Whangarei this summer, Jodie and the team would love to see you there.
