Vintage, retro, antique, shabby chic and upcycled stalls will be available in addition to the handmade products already on offer. This opens the doors to a whole new aspect to the market – a bit of history, a bit of exploring for treasure, something a bit different or unique – something that has been lovingly restored or artistically re-modelled.
Market organiser Jodie Hannam said “We are looking to bring antique or vintage goods to the market and maintain the high standards of quality that are synonymous with the Artisan’s Fair.”
Donna Te Aroha from Heart Led Life displayed her products at the market last week. Heart Led Life is a non-profit organization which supports people who have been victims of trauma & abuse as children resulting in life long disabilities. Decades of experience in counselling and coaching taught Donna that many clients were unable to pay for counselling, and would instead offer donations such as old furniture. Being an artist, Donna decided to start “upcycling” this furniture – fixing and repurposing, and in turn creating beautiful, one off pieces of furniture which she now sells on Trademe under the name Heart Led Life
Heart Led Life’s stall received a lot of attention, with many visitors wanting to buy the pieces or commission new ones. All very exciting for Donna in her quest to raise funds to support her worthy cause, develop her online support tools in order to help as many people as possible.
“Donna’s furniture is so unique and beautiful. It exemplifies the extra element we are trying to add to the market” says Jodie. “There could be so many people out there, so hobbyists or art enthusiasts who lovingly work with products like this. There may also be people who love to deal in collectible antiques or vintage items. The market gives the opportunity to get infront of people, to allow people to touch and feel their products, to get a sense of the quality that they are buying. These stalls will add to the quality already offered by the many highly talented local Arts, Craft and food people that currently have stalls on the Canopy Bridge every Saturday”
The Artisan’s Fair Markets run every Saturday on the Canopy Bridge, Town Basin – for more information contact Jodie Hannam 021 923 077 www.artisansfair.org.nz
